I recently spoke on the subject “The Spirit and the word”, (available by podcast) in which I said “The Holy Spirit will be released to the degree we stand in awe of the Bible. Signs following will be His seal on us, power that flows will be in proportion to our love for His word.”

I want to encourage you to develop a clear plan for reading your Bible. Some enjoy tackling the bible in a year, others will take longer. What method you use isn’t nearly as important as simply reading the bible regularly.

I use the following strategy when reading so as to ensure I hear from God in the process.

Scripture – Write out a verse or two that speak specifically to you each day.

Observation – Make a note of what you observe in the text.

Application – Record how God’s Word applies to your life.

Prayer – Pray a prayer of response to what God has said to you.

You can do this by yourself, with your family, with some friends or as part of your Home Group. As you make your time with God and His Word the priority of your day, you will experience a tangible change in your life. God’s words are alive and powerful, able to not only feed your soul, but to renew your thinking and to give you insight for every aspect of your life and ministry.

As each of us establishes the habit of hearing and applying God’s Word every day, we will experience the joys of knowing God better and of becoming healthy and strong disciples of Jesus Christ.

For a good book to help you navigate the bible I would recommend 'How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth' by Gordon D. Fee and Douglas Stuart)
